CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Dancers should expect to remain in certain levels for more than one session to acquire proper technique, alignment and understanding of ballet fundamentals. Instructors will give recommendations based on class performance. Anyone needing an evaluation to join a class should notify the front desk.

Demi/Mini Program

Ages 2-6 Years Old

Little Demi’s: This 30-minute class is designed to enhance your child’s motor, listening, and social skills through dance activities. Dancers will be introduced to basic ballet technique. Offered to children age 2 to 3 years.

Demi’s: This is an introductory class containing ballet and creative movement. Young dancers will learn the basic ballet steps while learning how to follow direction and imitate movement and gross motor skill development games in a positive and fun environment. Engaging music is used to get these little ones inspired to dance.

Mini Tap/Ballet: This beginner level class will cover the proper placement of body position, posture, terminology and class behavior. This class is designed to provide young dancers an introduction into the fundamentals of tap dance. Early exposure to the rhythms and unique mind-to-foot connection associated with tap dance will allow students to progress and excel at the art as they move through life. The goal is to prepare these young dancers to move on into higher levels of ballet and tap classes. A great class for 5-6 year old's who love to dance!

Mini Jazz: Mini jazz is an introductory class with jazz basics to fun and kid-friendly music. Dancers will learn the beginning steps of jazz and work on picking up choreography sequences that fuse together style and technique.

Mini Hip Hop: This class serves as an introduction to hip hop dance for the younger student. Using games and music, the class focuses on rhythm, musicality and basic footwork. It is a great way to get kids moving!

Ballet Program

Juniors/Teen/Seniors

Jr, Teen, Senior Ballet I: For beginner dancers ready to learn the basics of ballet (recommended for ages 7+). Students will build off of the five positions, master plié variations and tendus, among other level-appropriate skills. Dancers will use both barre and centre floor. Dancers will work to master level I curriculum to move on to level II with the instructor’s recommendation. 

Jr, Teen, Senior Ballet II: This class will take the skills learned in level I and build upon them to strengthen the dancer's precision and ability. Students will advance on to more difficult skills and utilize both barre and centre floor work to improve their technique. Dancers must show proficiency and receive recommendation to progress to this level. Prerequisites: Must have completed or concurrently enrolled in BALLET I or higher. 

Jr, Senior Ballet III/IV: For advanced ballet dancers looking to challenge their previous knowledge and training. Students will learn more difficult combinations and skills, while developing finesse and classic style. Dancers must master all level I and II skills and technique to enroll in this level with instructor’s recommendation. Prerequisites: Must have completed or concurrently enrolled in BALLET II or higher. OWNER/STUDIO MANAGER AND TEACHER APPROVAL

Pre-Pointe: Pre-pointe classes are often offered to ballet students who are not yet on pointe to further develop and strengthen the muscles necessary to go en pointe. They stress correct alignment and correct classical ballet technique. Pre-pointe classes also allow teachers to assess readiness, offering an atmosphere for proper evaluation of important skills. Prerequisites: Must have completed or concurrently enrolled in a BALLET II or higher

Pointe: The technique for girls of performing ballet movements en pointe creates an impression of airiness and fleetness. Pointe work is undertaken when the student has learned basic technique and when her legs and feet are sufficiently developed, usually after three years in technique classes. Girls are then required to wear pointe shoes for all classes in the Intermediate and Advanced divisions in support of Balanchine's goal for dancers to move quickly and effortlessly en pointe. Prerequisites: Must have completed PRE-POINTE and BALLET III or higher. OWNER/STUDIO MANAGER AND TEACHER APPROVAL

Hip Hop Program

Juniors/Teen/Seniors

Jr, Teen Senior Hip Hop I: This hip-hop class is a fast-paced and energetic dance style using the latest street/urban dance moves set to hip hop music. Hip hop encompasses a wide range of street styles including breaking, locking and popping. This class for young beginners specifically focuses on developing rhythm and coordination while encouraging individual style. Hip hop dance requires students to have the strength and stamina to successfully perform moves. Therefore, class includes upper and lower body conditioning as well as a rigorous warm-up to help prepare students for more intense movements. 

Jr, Teen, Senior Hip Hop II: ​ This exciting and fast paced dance class will leave your kid feeling fresh!  Don’t be intimidated...great for boys and girls who want to be challenged, learn various styles of hip hop, push creativity, and boost confidence. This class incorporates more intricate choreography and movement with faster-paced routines and music. Prerequisites: Must have completed or concurrently enrolled in HIP-HOP I or higher.

Sr Hip Hop III/IV: A dynamic, fast-paced dance class that will have you taking your Hip Hop style to the next level. Typically performed to popular music, this style has been highly sought after by anyone wanting to break out of the box of traditional dance. Develops power, personal style and agility by teaching a routine that builds momentum and repeats dance combinations rising in intensity. Prerequisites: Must have completed or concurrently enrolled in HIP-HOP II or higher. OWNER/STUDIO MANAGER AND TEACHER APPROVAL

Foundations of Hip Hop (Ages 11 & Up): A dynamic class designed to introduce students to the core techniques and principles of Hip Hop dance. Led by experienced instructor David Jenkins, this class focuses on fundamental movements, rhythm, and style while building strength, coordination, and musicality. Students will learn the basics of popping, locking, and grooves, as well as the history and culture behind Hip Hop dance. Perfect for beginners or those looking to refine their skills, Foundations of Hip Hop sets the stage for dancers to explore their creativity and develop a strong base for more advanced styles. Prerequisites: Must be currently enrolled in HIP-HOP I or higher.

Open Hip Hop (Ages 12 & Up): Perfect for dancers aged 12 and up who want to explore the world of hip hop without the pressure of recital commitments. This high-energy, drop-in style class focuses on rhythm, coordination, and performance skills through fun and dynamic choreography. Whether you're looking to improve your dance technique or just want to enjoy an upbeat, creative workout, this class is designed for all levels.

Jazz & Technique Program

Juniors/Teen/Seniors

Jr, Teen, Senior Jazz I: Jazz class will focus on learning proper dance technique such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Students will be exposed to various styles of jazz such as Broadway, Street and Contemporary to help develop a well-rounded dancer. Class curriculum is based on ballet technique layered with traditional jazz movement and includes a proper warm-up, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations. As students’ progress through each level curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate. 

Jr, Teen Senior Jazz II: Dancers must have at least one year of Jazz experience.  Material used, builds from Beginning Jazz into harder, more complicated, skills and technique that is age appropriate and builds performing dynamics. It is highly advised that as Jazz technique is learned, students supplement their training in ballet so that the Jazz student can properly perform the more complicated material that will be presented. Prerequisites: Must have completed or concurrently enrolled in Jazz I or higher

Sr Jazz III/IV: Movement is taught which incorporates Jazz, Modern, Lyrical, and Ballet to create an eclectic mix for an innovative quality of movement and choreography. Material taught builds from Jazz II that is age appropriate and pushes the student's skill and technique into more complicated combinations, footwork, turns, and jumps. Prerequisites: Must have completed or concurrently enrolled in Jazz II or higher

Jr, Teen, Senior Performance Jazz/Musical Theater: Very fun and popular for the dancer who loves to be on stage. We use Broadway themed songs along with plays and concepts as you see on Broadway or local theaters. It is a fantastic way to feel like you are in the theater without having to sing or act. Jazz technique, stylization, expression is also taught in this class which enhances their dance education and future theater opportunities. Prerequisites: Must have completed or concurrently enrolled in Jazz II or higher

Mini/Jr Technique: This class is designed for young dancers to learn the basics of turns, jumps, and leaps that form the foundation of jazz and ballet. Students will develop essential technical skills in a fun and supportive environment, building their confidence and love for dance.

The curriculum includes: Introduction to basic turns (e.g., single pirouettes, chainés), Fundamental jumps and leaps (e.g., sautés, jetés), Exercises to improve balance, coordination, and flexibility, Basic jazz and ballet combinations integrating turns and jumps, Focus on proper alignment and technique, Creative movement activities to encourage self-expression

By the end of the course, students will have a strong foundation in dance technique, preparing them for more advanced jazz and ballet classes.

Beginning Technique: Appropriate for beginning dancers, or those looking to work on the basic technical skills. This is the place to start if you’re new to Jazz turns or need to brush up on the fundamentals. Instruction includes proper placement and muscle engagement for each turn, helping you understand not only the “hows” but the “whys” of correct form. You’ll also learn center-floor and across-the-floor combos. With practice and focus on proper technique, these lessons serve as a foundation for more complex skills. Recommended for ages 11+ 

Intermediate Technique: This Intermediate Technique dance class is tailored for dancers looking to refine and expand their technical skills. The course focuses on more complex turns and jumps, building on the foundational techniques learned in beginner levels.

Students will engage in: Detailed instruction and practice of pirouettes, fouettés, and other turning combinations, Advanced jumping techniques, including grand jetés, saut de chat, and intricate jump sequences, Strength and flexibility exercises to support technical execution, Drills and combinations that enhance coordination, balance, and control, Musicality and rhythmic precision in executing turns and jumps

By the end of this class, dancers will have a stronger technical foundation and improved proficiency in executing complex turns and jumps, preparing them for advanced levels and performance opportunities. Prerequisites: Must have completed Beginning Technique. 

Advanced Technique: This advanced-level class is designed for dancers seeking to achieve mastery in a variety of technical skills, including complex turns and powerful jumps. Students will refine their technique, enhance their strength and flexibility, and perfect their execution of advanced dance movements.

The curriculum includes:

  • Mastery of multiple turn combinations (pirouettes, fouettés, a la seconde turns)
  • Advanced jumps and leaps (grand jetés, saut de basque, cabrioles)
  • Detailed focus on alignment, balance, and control
  • Strengthening exercises to support advanced movements
  • Dynamic combinations integrating turns and jumps
  • Individual feedback and corrections to ensure precision and improvement

By the end of the course, dancers will have achieved a high level of technical proficiency, enabling them to perform challenging choreography with confidence and artistry.

Prerequisites: Must have completed Intermediate Technique. OWNER AND TEACHER APPROVAL needed. 

Improv/Musicality: Whether it’s choreography or improvisation, learn basic techniques to create movement vocabulary! It’s all about the process, and this class sure provides a fun one. In this class, you will expand your movement vocabulary and learn to apply it to different interpretations of musicality. 

Foundations of Hip Hop: This is the place to start if you’re new to Hip-Hop technique or need to brush up on the basics. This course is designed to teach and train dancers in the basics of hip hop dance, providing a solid foundation in various styles and techniques. Students will explore the fundamental movements and rhythms that define hip hop culture, including grooving, tutting, locking, and krumping.

The curriculum includes:

  • Introduction to hip hop dance history and culture
  • Basic grooves and rhythm exercises
  • Fundamental techniques in tutting, locking, and krumping
  • Development of freestyle skills and personal style
  • Choreography sessions incorporating foundational moves
  • Strength and conditioning exercises to enhance performance

By the end of the course, students will have a comprehensive understanding of hip hop dance fundamentals, preparing them for more advanced training and performance opportunities.

Prerequisites: Must be concurrently enrolled in a Hip-Hop course.

Open Jazz/Contemporary: Designed for dancers ages 12 and up who want to explore the expressive styles of Jazz and Contemporary dance without the pressure of a recital commitment. This drop-in style class focuses on dynamic movement, technique, and musicality, providing a space for students to improve their skills, learn new choreography, and enjoy the freedom of dance. This class offers a welcoming and energetic environment for all levels.

Contemporary Program

Juniors/Teen/Seniors

Jr, Teen, Sr. Contemporary I: An introductory level of dance combining elements of Ballet, Modern, and Jazz technique. Students will learn choreography that embraces self-expression, story-telling, artistry, level changes, and athleticism. 

Sr. Contemporary II:  An upper level contemporary dance class for the more advanced student proficient in Ballet, Modern, and Jazz technique.  Students will learn a wide range of choreography from profound to physical to emotional, and will be challenged to visually communicate what they feel within. Prerequisites: Must have completed or concurrently in Sr Contemporary I.

Sr. Contemporary II: An upper level contemporary dance class for the more advanced student proficient in Ballet, Modern, and Jazz technique. Students will learn a wide range of choreography from profound to physical to emotional, and will be challenged to visually communicate what they feel within. Prerequisites: Must have completed or concurrently in Sr Contemporary I. 

Sr. Contemporary III: This advanced course is designed for dancers who have mastered the foundational and intermediate techniques of contemporary dance. In Contemporary 3, students will explore intricate choreography, advanced technical skills, and expressive performance quality. Emphasis will be placed on developing personal artistry, improvisation, and the ability to convey complex emotions and narratives through movement.

The curriculum includes: Advanced floor work and partnering techniques, Complex phrase work and variations, Increased focus on musicality and dynamics, Extensive improvisational exercises, Performance preparation and critique sessions

By the end of the course, students will have honed their technical precision, creative expression, and stage presence, preparing them for professional-level performances or further specialized dance training. Prerequisites: Must have completed or concurrently in Sr Contemporary II. 

Fitness Program

Juniors/Teen/Seniors

Dance is one of the most physically demanding activities a person can do. If you’re spending several hours every day taking class, rehearsing and performing, it’s important that you are physically fit so that your body can safely perform the physical demands you ask of it, and with the least risk of possible injury. Our Fitness Program addresses these needs and by helping dancers get and stay in shape.

ZUMBA FITNESS (16 & Up): Develop individualized and group exercise sessions aimed at helping individuals achieve their fitness goals. Design exercise routines to increase metabolism and reduce stress levels incorporating proper breathing and body positioning.

Jr, Teen, Senior Stretch & Conditioning: Stretch class complements the training of the dance student. In this class, students will increase their understanding of their anatomy and dance alignment while increasing flexibility and strengthening their core, fee, turnout muscles, legs, back, and upper body posture. Students will focus on learning how to stretch correctly by releasing overall tension, releasing muscle tension, and relaxing the mind, while defining specific muscles groups.

The following skills are to be mastered in order to be considered for the Int/Adv classes: Standing backbend (down and up), Strong cartwheels and roundoff, Limbers and Walkovers (front and back)


ACRO & TUMBLING 1:
Designed for ages 7 and up, this exciting class focuses on building strength, flexibility, and agility through acrobatic movements and tumbling techniques. Under the guidance of our expert instructor, students will learn the fundamentals of acro skills, including handstands, cartwheels, backbends, and more. Whether you're a beginner or looking to refine your skills, this class provides a supportive and energetic environment to help you soar to new heights!

Tap Program

Juniors/Teen/Seniors

Jr, Teen, Senior Tap I Level: This first level introduces students to fundamental tap techniques arranged in combinations and performed in class as solo or group demonstrations. Students take an active part in the creation of combinations, and learn how to perform with energy and how to bring their own personality to each and every performance. The main goals in this level are identifying, utilizing, and demonstrating tap terminology as well as understanding tap as a form of entertainment.

Jr, Teen Senior Tap II Level: In this second level, students continue to develop their tap technique by enriching the vocabulary and improving the quality of the techniques already introduced. The Intermediate technique builds upon rhythms with more complicated, but repetitive sound elements that require students to have a higher level of concentration and self-awareness. Wings, Pullbacks and more intricate tap combinations are introduced. Prerequisites: Must have completed TAP I.

Jr, Senior Tap III/IV Level: In this final level students will work on improving the speed and precision of the movements learned in Tap II, and will also learn more complicated and interesting rhythms. The main goals for this level are to gain confidence and freedom of movement and to be able to utilize the knowledge to create tap improvisations. Students will have increased speed and coordination in their footwork and they will be able to learn more complicated steps experimenting with various levels and styles of tap dance. Students will develop a mastery of tap skills such as Time Steps, Double Toe-Stands, basic Wings, Pullbacks and Rifts. Prerequisites: Must have completed TAP II.
